Poetry: Why I Love Writing poems & What Inspires me

Poetry

Since I first came across poetry in school I fell in love with it. I love how you can create short captivating stories using creative techniques. There are so many different types of poetry and they are all so imaginative and up for many interpretations.

Why I Love Writing Poems

I love writing poems because sometimes I have so much to say about significant topics, for example self love or anxiety. When I write poems there are so many creative ways/things I can convey in a poem to help create a vision for the person reading. It makes it possible for me to write a short effective narrative.

Many poems have different interpretations. When I create a poem, I know the meaning and theme behind it. However a stranger might read it and view it in a completely different light. Poetry is open for the imagination. I enjoy dissecting poems; trying to find the meanings behind a poets’ creativity and words.

What Inspires Me?

I’ve discovered since I started writing poetry again that I love personifying the things I see around me. I love bringing nature and objects around me to life. I find it simple to write poems this way because I just amplify the purpose of the things I see around me and relate it to us humans.

I remember falling in love with Charles Dickens’ poems because he used personification in his poems and they are quite detailed. I think poems with personification invites so much imagination. It forces those who have no imagination to picture the poem.

Blogging reintroduced me to poetry. I have written many poems before, whilst I was in high school. However the first poem I wrote on my blog; check it out The Museum featuring “Winter Nights” by the moon. This poem was inspired by what I saw around me. The moon looked so captivating one night and I just started writing along with what surrounded it. That’s when I realized how natural and effortless it was for me to create a story by exaggerating the things that surrounded me.

  1. I love reading about what other writers think about the craft, so this was an entertaining read. I don’t do poetry myself, but you did pique my interest in the genre. Thanks for sharing!
